Schalke End Gazprom Deal Early, Sell Special-Edition Shirts

Update - February 28, 2022: Schalke have announced that they have ended their sponsorship agreement with Gazprom, adding that further details would be provided "in due course."

In addition to the news, shirts bearing the name Schalke 04 in place of the Gazprom logo, as worn by the first team away to Karlsruhe on Sunday, are being sold in the online store. They're proving so popular that the store is currently down.

Update - February 27, 2022: Today's away game vs Karlsruhe has given us a first look at the actual application of the Schalke 04 text on Schalke's kits. In this case on the third kit, it's applied as a patch with a background, covering the existing Gazprom patch.

Original article: Following recent developments, German 2. Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 have decided to remove the logo of main sponsor GAZPROM from the club's shirts. It will be replaced by lettering reading ‘Schalke 04’ instead.

The Russian state and natural gas production company Gazprom have been the main sponsor of Schalke 04 since 2007 (contract until 2025), paying 9 million euros a year in the 2nd division. In the event of a return to the Bundesliga, it would be 15 million euros plus a promotion bonus of three million euros.
