Valencia to Continue Building Nou Mestalla After 12 Years?

Valencia could soon continue with the construction of the "Nou Mestalla", ending a stadium saga that is heavily connected to the Spanish property bubble of the late 2000s.

The first concept of the new Valencia stadium (Nou Mestalla) was presented in 2006. It was Spain's most impressive stadium plan at that time with amazing facades and other architectural highlights.

The stadium has been left half-built for 12 years since 2009.

However, in March 2009, Valencia CF suffered from heavy debt and couldn't afford the remaining works. In 2013, the project was adjusted to difficult financial conditions. The overall cost was cut to just €200 million through simplified facades and a heavily downscaled capacity.

Valencia Want to Invest Money Of New La Liga CVC Deal For Stadium Project

As reported by Spanish media, Valencia will dedicate around €90million to the stadium project, thanks to La Liga’s CVC deal. As part of the deal, Spanish La Liga clubs were given quite much money upfront in exchange for 11% of revenue from television rights over the next 50 years.

This week, the Generalitat Valenciana rejected Valencia CF's appeal to extend the new Mestalla

The new stadium is located in the area of Benicalap, which is 4.1 kilometres from Mestalla.

However, it is anything but certain that Valencia will finish their new stadium. On November 11, the Generalitat Valenciana rejected Valencia CF's appeal to extend the new Mestalla due to deadlines that have been broken and non-certain financing.
