Melted - Ajax Turn Their 20-21 Eredivise Trophy Into Stars for Fans

As a tribute to their fans after a year-long of Covid, Ajax decide to melt their recently won Eredivise trophy.

The Champion Stars - A Piece Of Ajax

For almost the entirety of the 20-21 season, 30 matches out of 34 to be exact, Ajax have played without their fans. Despite this, the club went on to top the Eredivisie as well as winning the Dutch KNVB Cup.

In a move to reiterate their strong connection with the fans, Ajax melt the 20-21 Eredivise and turn it into 42,000 Champion stars. Each star weighs 3.45g, of which 0.06g comes from the melted trophy. Any season ticket holder will receive this one "piece of Ajax" as a memento.

Edwin van der Sar, Ajax legend and General Director, said: "This season, we have largely had to play without our fans. Well, without them sitting in the stands, at least. Despite this, we have felt their support every week. On the way to the stadium, on social media and in our personal contacts.

"Previously, when we said ‘this title is for you', we were expressing how we were doing it for the fans however sharing the trophy is the ultimate proof that we really are. After a turbulent year, we are ensuring our fans feel part of our championship.”

Ajax captain Dusan Tadic added: "Playing in an empty stadium doesn’t compare with an atmospheric Johan Cruijff Arena."

"We have really missed our supporters over the past season here in Amsterdam and during all our matches. We, therefore, want to dedicate this title to our fans and can’t wait to play in front of them again."
