La Liga and Santander Extend Naming Rights Deal

La Liga and Santander Bank yesterday announced a renewal of their naming rights deal.

The new deal will see the first and second divisions in Spain to be called La Liga Santander and La Liga Smartbank, respectively, at least until the end of the 2022-23 season. There also exists an additional option for an extension until 2023-24, according to the official announcement.

The agreement signed between Santander and LaLiga also includes the sponsorship of LaLiga Genuine Santander, a league made up of teams of people with intellectual disabilities, and LaLiga Promises (under-12 football). Santander is also the main sponsor of Spain's official FIFA 21 competition: eLaLiga Santander.

After the deal was signed by Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, and Rami Aboukhair, CEO of Santander Spain, both parties stated that the collaboration “will continue to allow both entities to expand the Spain Brand throughout the world, to bet on the values positive associated with sport, in general, and football, in particular, and express continuity, commitment and hope in a moment as delicate as the present one”.

“Being able to continue counting on our main sponsor, Banco Santander, is confirmation that we are working on the right path”, said Tebas. Aboukhair stated that "we are very proud to continue naming the best league in the world, LaLiga Santander."
