St. Pauli And Under Armour Part Ways

Yesterday, German outfit FC St Pauli officially announced that they will part ways with American sportswear maker Under Armour after this season.

The deal was signed in 2016 with a contract length of 5 years and both parties agreed to not extend their relationship beyond this point.

On the one hand St Pauli's organized supporters were never in love with the American sportswear brand, which was not aided by the fact that some kit designs were atrocious. On the other hand, Under Armour is in financial woes and also restructuring to prioritize other sports branches than football.

Director of sales Bernd von Geldern said: "The reason we came to a joint decision not to continue our collaboration beyond the 2020-21 decision is that both sides are up for something new – which is precisely what brought us together in 2016. We think the time has come to strike out anew, yet also look back on a very successful partnership with lots of mutual stimuli. The first US tour, with the visits to the Under Armour offices in Baltimore and Portland, in particular, was a collective highlight. We'd like to thank Under Armour most sincerely for five years of constructive cooperation."
