French Teams & National Team Wear Blue Flower On Kits - Here is Why

Update: The blue flower (Bleuet) will feature on this weekend's Ligue 1 jerseys and the kits of the French national team in November. With it, France pay tribute to the victims of wars and attacks.

If you will watch a match of the French Ligue 1 this weekend, things will be different to previous matchdays. In similar fashion to the Premier League last weekend, the French Ligue 1 & Ligue 2 will pay tribute to the victims of wars and attacks. Thanks to Footpack who first reported on this.

France To Pay Tribute To Victims & Veterans With Bleuet de France

During the month of November, French football will support Bleuet de France with a blue cornflower. The Bleuet de France is a National symbol in France of Memory and Solidarity, assistance to veterans, wounded soldiers, widows, Pupils of the Nation and victims of terrorist attacks.

The cornflower "is the poppy of France"

It can be said that the cornflower is the poppy of France. English Premier League teams also traditionally remember the end of World War I and those who served for the country with a red poppy on their kits.

Besides the flower on the jerseys, several actions are carried out through the association of the National Office for Veterans and Victims of War (ONACVG), in partnership with the LFP.

Actions as part of Bleuet de France

  • A minute's silence will be observed in all stadiums, in tribute to those who died for France and to the victims of an attack;
  • The jerseys of players from the 40 clubs will be flocked with the Bleuet de France crest;
  • The referees and delegates will wear armbands bearing the image of the Bleuet coat of arms;
  • The Cornflower flower will also be worn by all the players present at the edge of the pitch: coaches and managers and club staff, video assistants and media managers; but also by the journalists present in the gallery, the broadcasters and TV commentators thanks to our broadcasters Téléfoot, Canal + and beIN SPORTS;
  • The jerseys worn by the players will then be gathered to organize auctions for the benefit of Bleuet de France.

The France national team will certainly also wear a blue cornflower on their kits. Last year, France's players also wore a white arm band with the Bleuet de France.
