Tottenham Blocks Bale Kit Print - Name Trademarked?

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale has been in the headlines recently, possibly finally able to leave Real Madrid. However, fans looking to already have 'Bale 11' emblazoned on the back of their new Tottenham shirt, are not able to do so.

Bale Has Protected His Celebration As Trademark, But Now His Name

If typing the Bale name into Spurs' kit customization tool, the red message 'Word Rejected' pops up. This is only on the main page of the store and not on the sub-site of the official Spurs online store.

According to some "experts", it is not able to get the Bale printing because the former Spurs winger Gareth Bale has, apparently, trademarked his own name, preventing anyone from using it.

Bale only trademarked his 11 of hearts celebration

However, Bale did just trademarked his 11 of hearts celebration but not his surname. So the reason is likely something else.

Other lettering is also not possible to have it on the Spurs 2020-21 home kit, including 'Arsenal' and 'Fuck You'. For Arsenal, it appears the same "Word Rejected" message as for Bale.

In stores of other teams like Man Utd and Arsenal it is possible to have the 'Bale' printing.

The Tottenham Hotspur No. 11 shirt is currently occupied by Lamela.
