AS Roma Unhappy With Nike, Club Considers Under Armour Switch

AS Roma is set to launch their new 2020-21 Nike home kit very soon. Now recent reports from Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport suggest that the Italian club is not happy with their current Nike contract.

AS Roma To Renegotiate Nike Deal?

According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma CEO Guido Fienga and COO Francesco Calvo are unhappy the the club’s current shirt deal with Nike and are considering alternatives. The duo believe that their current contract with Nike, which expires in 2024, is not good for the club, especially when compared with those of other teams.

AS Roma's original Nike deal was signed in 2013. It guarantees the club an annual base of 4 million euros. There is also a malus in the contract related to the non-participation of Rome in the Champions League, according to Corriere dello Sport.

In October 2018, the Giallorossi already renegotiated the deal with Nike. The club reclaimed their merchandise sales rights after acquiring a Nike-owned US company that previously managed the production of the club’s official stock.

One of the alternatives Roma are considering is Under Armour. However, for us it is almost impossible that Under Armour will sign a team like Roma as the brand has big financial problems currently.
