No More Nike: South Africa Announce Le Coq Sportif Kit Deal

The South African Football Association today announced a kit deal with French brand Le Coq Sportif to replace Nike.

The South South Africa Le Coq Sportif kit deal will run for an initial five years from 1 June 2020, after the 'Bafana Bafana' jerseys had been produced by Nike for six years.

Originally scheduled to play in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers this month, we will now likely not see South Africa play another match wearing Nike kits for some time.

“We’re really excited about the deal, we’ve signed a five-year deal with SAFA starting officially from June 1, however with the delays due to the virus we’re not sure when the players will get to wear it for the first time,” Le Coq Sportif SA Director Roger Noades told Soccer Laduma.

“We totally believe that with a bit of French flair, we can play our part moving forward. Le Coq Sportif is one of the oldest brands in the world, it’s been going since 1882, so we’ve got heritage. We know exactly what South Africans love… I have a nine-year-old, and I’m hoping to help build South African footballing icons for him and the generations to come.

South Africa joins Cameroon, who signed a deal with Le Coq Sportif just last year.
