FIFA 19 to Include UEFA Champions League?

FIFA 19 could well include the official UEFA Champions League license following news this morning that Konami and UEFA will not continue their partnership of 10 years.

UEFA thanked Konami for their commitment and cooperation, with UEFA marketing director Guy-Laurent Epstein commenting:

"It has been a very cooperative and mutually beneficial partnership. UEFA would like to thank Konami for its tremendous commitment and support to UEFA club competitions for the last decade and we look forward to continuing to work with Konami in the sphere of UEFA national team football."

Konami's direct of brand & business development, Jonas Lygaard, had to say the following:

"The UEFA Champions League licence has given us a platform to create unique experiences and provide football fans from all over the world with an opportunity to enjoy this competition first-hand.

"This year, however, we will shift our focus into other areas. We will continue to explore alternative ways UEFA and Konami can continue to work together, as our relationship remains strong."

Konami took over the Champions League license from EA Sports, who had released two standalone Champions League games in 2005 and 2007, in 2008 and used it inside the regular Pro Evolution Soccer games starting with the 2009 edition.

What it looked like the last time...

Now could be EA's chance to regain control of this important license, with possible implementations ranging from embedding it into the standard FIFA to DLCs or even standalone games as before.

Stay tuned for an official announcement of the increasingly likely licensing agreement between UEFA and EA Sports for the Champions League.
