Totally blackout, Ousmane Dembele's boots were the same prototype cleats that he used for the first time in a Barcelona training session in early January. However, while it is usually a strong indicator that a player is set to leave his boot supplier if he is wearing blackout boots in an official match, this time the case is different.

The reason for Ousmane Dembele to wear blackout cleats is that the majority of contracted Nike players were instructed to wait until this week to debut the launch colorway, with only few exceptions such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe who are playing in the Champions League this week (Nike allows them to wear them in a league match so they do not have to debut them in one of the most important matches of the season).

It is expected that Dembele will wear the orange launch colorway of the next-generation low-cut Nike Mercurial 2018 boot in Barcelona's match against Eibar next weekend and in the Champions League clash against Chelsea on February 20.
