Adidas Creates Special Cut For Colombia, Germany & Russia 2018 World Cup Home Jerseys To Optimize Visual Shirt Design

Spain's 2018 World Cup kit features a regular cut, while Germany's strip comes with a special cut in the shoulders area.

Adidas' 2018 World Cup home kits for Germany, Colombia and Russia feature a cut that exceed the shoulders area, in strong opposite to regular football kits. But why has Adidas created this strange, unusual cut for the jerseys?

The designers of the Three Stripes wanted the jerseys to look as similar as possible as the 1990s-inspiration of the kits. However, the jerseys in the 1990s featured a much different cut than today's soccer kits, so the Three Stripes created this strange cut for both the authentic and replica versions of three home kits (Colombia, Germany, Russia).

It remains to be seen if there are any performance restriction because of the different cut.

Germany's kit would have looked like very different with a standard cut...

It is not known which / if any Adidas 2018 World Cup away kit will feature a special cut. Those leaked so far (Colombia, Mexico) have a normal cut.
