Chelsea Leaves Adidas
Adidas and Chelsea FC today announced that they have agreed to cut their long-term kit sponsorship short and end it six years earlier than initially planned, at the end of next season.
Adidas and Chelsea End Partnership Prematurely
Initially set to run until 2023, the partnership between Adidas and Chelsea will now end at the closing of the 2016-17 season, on June 30. This means that the current Chelsea 16-17 shirts will be the last ones to be made by the Three Stripes - for now.
In order to prematurely end the contract, Adidas announced that Chelsea FC will pay the company a sum in the mid-double digit millions of euros. Additionally, the company said letting Chelsea go was part of their plans to have fewer kit deals moving forward.
It's completely unlikely that Chelsea decided to pay out Adidas to end the contract early if it didn't already have a new partner lined up. No details on the new Chelsea jersey supplier have been revealed or even leaked at this point, but a club of Chelsea's stature should be interesting for most brands in the football market. Currently only sponsoring one big English club in Manchester City, Nike could be a valid option to become Chelsea's kit supplier for the first time ever.
