River Plate Sign Record-Breaking Adidas Kit Deal

South American champions River Plate have signed a record-breaking kit deal with German sportswear supplier Adidas that will bring the club up to $10 million per year until 2021.

River Plate have more than fully recovered since they were relegated to the second division in June 2011. The Argentine club will play in the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup after they won the 2015 Copa Libertadores this summer.

River Plate Sign 6-Year Adidas Kit Deal

The new River Adidas deal is the biggest in the history of Argentine club soccer.

The new Adidas River Plate Kit Deal is worth $60 million over 6 years. And while it's not only the biggest deal in the history of club football in Argentina, it's likely even more important for the fans of Los Millonarios that they have surpassed the $8 million deal that arch-rivals Boca Juniors have with Nike.

"The contract we had with Adidas was until 2018 and it has been extended until 2021 for 60 million dollars," River's marketing president Luis Landoni told Reuters on November 20. "The contract was increased by 70 percent and approved at a board meeting and ratified by a (club) members' assembly."

Landoni also said that the "10 million dollars a year are for sponsorship, bonuses and prizes for objectives achieved by the team".
