AS Saint Etienne Honors Victims of Paris Attacks

Last weekend's league football matches marked not only the return of club football after the international break, but also the first round of games after the terrible attacks in Paris. AS Saint Etienne opted to dedicate the entire front of its shirt to the 'Peace for Paris' logo that has become a synonym for the mourning and recovery after the assaults.

AS Saint Etienne Dons 'Peace for Paris' Logo

The Peace for Paris icon can be seen on the front of the AS Saint Etienne jersey against Olympique Marseille.

Created by French artist Jean Jullien, the Peace for Paris logo fuses the icon of the city of Paris, the Eiffel Tower, with the universal symbol for peace. A powerful image which transmits a powerful message, a combination which made it a popular expression to honor the victims of the attacks.

And because Jullien declared that his creation belonged to the people and that he wouldn't insist on his copyright, it allowed Saint Etienne to feature the incredibly strong logo on its football kits in yesterday's Ligue 1 match against Marseille. The St. Etienne shirt was otherwise free of any sponsor logos, making it an even nicer shirt to look at than the original version released in July-
