Adidas Messi 2015 Ballon d'Or Boots Released - Messi 15 Platinum Edition

Update 13/01/2016: Leo Messi today showed off his brand-new FIFA Ballon d'Or Boots on social media. It's still expected that he will wear the regular edition of the boots in today's Copa del Rey clash against Espanyol.

Adidas today launched the special-edition Adidas Lionel Messi 2015 Ballon d'Or boots, labeled "Adidas Messi 15 Platinum Edition" and commemorating Messi's historic 5th Ballon d'Or win.

Adidas presented Lionel Messi with the Adidas Messi boot in May 2015, the brand's first-ever football cleat silo exclusive to one player.

This image shows the the all-new Adidas Messi 15.1 boots commemorating Lionel Messi's fifth Ballon d'Or award.

Based on the regular Adidas Messi 15.1 boots, the special Adidas Messi Ballon d'Or 2015-2016 boots are white with silver trim. The iconic cage of the Adidas Messi 2015 Ballon d'Or soccer boots is platinum metallic, while the Messi logo on the heel features a more pronounced metallic finish. Otherwise, the Adidas Messi 2015 Ballon d'Or boots are completely white, including the synthetic upper material and the agility sole plate.

Adidas has further customized the special-edition Lionel Messi 2015 Ballon d'Or boots by adding a "El más grande de todos los tiempos" (The greatest of all time) writing on the insole of the right boot. On top of that, five embelished dots, representing Messi's five Ballon d'Or titles, are present on the left insole, as well as both boots' heel tab. A picture of Messi's face in the style of classic "Adidas endorsement" pictures is placed on the tongue of the white-platinum Adidas Messi 15.1 Platinum Edition cleats.

Tech-wise, the Adidas Messi 15.1 Platinum Edition boots are identical to the regular edition, apart from the use of pearlescent Argentinian premium leather, enhanced with pure metallic platinum elements. The Messi logo and the adidas logo are both made out of real platinum.

Lionel Messi has won four consecutive Ballon d'Ors between 2009 and 2012 and returned to the top of the podium this year after Cristiano Ronaldo won the previous two editions.

Unveiled one day after the 2015 Ballon d'Or gala, Adidas already confirmed that the Adidas Messi 15.1 Platinum Edition boots "aren't for sale".
